There’s a big difference between scented candle and aromacandle. The first one is just filled with synthetic fragrance and the second one – with 100% natural essential oils. So, scented candle is about scent and aromacandle is about therapy.
To choose the right candle, read carefully about the ingredients.
TYPE OF WAX
Choose soy (or other natural) wax instead of paraffin. Soy wax is made of soy beans; it is not toxic and gives a ‘clear’ and slow burning. Soy wax is also safe for kids.
Paraffin, on the contrary, can be not very safe: sometimes it includes harmful compounds activated by burning.
Make sure that the candle includes 100% natural essential oils.
The key point of the aromatherapy is a quality of essential oils. To get an aromatherapy effect, it should be 100% natural essential oils made from herbs, shrubs, flowers etc.
The right selection of aroma will affect not only your emotional state; essential oils also have curative properties.

Such a little detail as a type of wick is significant for the aromatherapy. Choose a candle with cotton (or other natural) wick, because it will burn clear, without any harm (which can be provides by some synthetic materials).
